Environment

Conservation is one of my strongest principles. Unlike many, I do not believe that environmental conservation and business development are inherently conflicting goals.  Our environmental and energy policies should support businesses and job creation.  I strongly oppose anychang kids and playground state-level cap-and-trade laws that unnecessarily handicap our most important small businesses.

Additionally, it is important for Illinois to invest resources that will improve our coal refining techniques in order to reduce waste and pollution. We need to focus on proven methods of "going green", including recycling, more fuel-efficient cars and renewable energy.

Our Great Lake Michigan

Lake Michigan is an integral aspect of our state's economy and lifestyle. Whether you are enjoying a fresh, cold glass of tap water, transporting your business's commercial goods, planning a family-fun day at the beach or going fishing with friends, chances are you will be utilizing Lake Michigan, one of Illinois' greatest assets. Unfortunately, pollution levels in Lake Michigan continue to rise, threatening our safety and the state's fragile ecosystem. I support working across party and state lines to make our great lake safe, sanitary and sustainable for the years to come.

Green Economy

Illinois must work to create an environment that is friendly to the development of a green collar economy. I support offering state tax credits to attract wind turbine manufacturers and alternative energy providers to Illinois. Such a measure brings new business to Illinois, creates jobs and encourages the use of sustainable energy sources.
