Public Safety
I am committed to improving public safety not only for our district, but for the State of Illinois. I believe that in order to thrive, our families need to be able to safely live, work, pray, play and socialize in our communities. Building economic opportunity is central to building long-term public safety, and that is why one of my core focuses is expanding local jobs and economic sustainability. I also recognize that public safety requires effective and responsible use of our safety personnel.
The strength of Illinois and our communities lies in the people and when it comes to making our communities safer, the people of Illinois deserve the best.
I have called the 17th District my home for the last 15 years; it is the community where my wife and I decided to plant our family’s roots. As your State Representative, I pledge to serve you and your family by supporting policies that safeguard our schools, our public buildings, our environment our streets, our homes and our families.
Cyber Crimes
Although it is not inherently bad, technology is, like all innovation, not without its risks. Advances in technology have fundamentally altered all aspects of our society – the way people exchange information, run businesses, meet one another and interact with one another, are all impacted by technology. In addition to bringing efficiency and advancements to our lives, the Internet has also become a virtual hunting ground for predators in our society. A recent study by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office found that nearly 25% of children in grades 3-12 reported having received an inappropriate picture over a cell phone or computer. These findings are even more disturbing when broken down by age. We must do more to protect ourselves, our children and our communities against those who use technology to prey on others. Elected officials must do more to ensure that our laws are equipped to regulate criminal activity associated with modern technology. If elected, I will take it upon myself to fight for updated legislation that accounts for cyber crimes so our families can reap the benefits of technology with protections in place to ensure public safety.
